Today in Far East Gippsland, forty people from across the Australia and the world walked into a logging coupe on the Errinundra Plateau in order to express their dismay at the continued logging of old growth forest. The group walked into the coupe and work was temporarily halted as discussions took place with logging workers. The group left peacefully after bearing witness to the destruction of this forest. The spontaneous action followed an eight day old growth walk through the diverse forests of the Errinundra Plateau, attended by fifty people.

"The international travelers in the group are appalled that these sort of practices are still happening in Australia, which has a "green" reputation overseas. The continual desecration of our old growth forest needs to be brought to public attention, both nationally and internationally," said spokesperson for the group, Raj Beri.

"The diversity of our old growth forest are world class. They have great potential to become an icon destination for eco tourism, yet they are being destroyed by an expensive and out-dated logging industry," he concluded.
